We talk about God every Sunday. We pray to Him, sing about Him, read His Word, and say that we trust Him. But if someone asked you, Who is God? What is He really like? How would you answer?

And then there are questions about ourselves. Why are we here? Why is there so much good in the world, and yet so much that is clearly wrong? Not only about the world, we know something is wrong within us too.

These might sound like questions for a theology classroom, but the truth is, we can be Christians for many years and still have gaps in our understanding. We know the Bible stories. We have heard words like Trinity, sin, grace and salvation many times. But sometimes it is difficult to see how everything fits together, or why these truths matter for us.

Over the coming weeks, we’re going back to some of the foundations of our faith. We’ll begin with God Himself and who He has revealed Himself to be as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Along the way, we’ll think about what God is like, what it means that we are made in His image, what sin has done to us, how God saves us through Jesus, and the future He has promised.

This isn’t about learning theology simply so that we know more. We want to know God better. Our prayer is that as we see Him more clearly in His Word, we’ll also begin to understand ourselves a little better and what it means to live as His people in this world.
